About Us

Northern Virginia Gamers (NOVAG) is one of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area's oldest and most respected hobby gaming organizations. Started in 1986, we have consistently provided a focal point for gamers in the Capital area for almost three decades. We welcome members from as far away Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. We welcome you to come out and play at one of our many events.

Club History

The Northern Virginia Gamers (NOVAG) was formed in 1985 or so by local gamers playing in the back of a now-defunct hobby and wargames shop in Sterling Park, Virginia. Our first conventions were paid for by the pizza fund. We operate as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting gamers in the Washington D.C. area. In short, we are a bunch of grown up people that like to play with toys, and have invented a "hobby" to support the notion. We welcome gamers who enjoy historical, science fiction, or fantasy gaming in all forms of table top games: miniatures, board games, role-playing, or card gaming. Throughout the year, NOVAG provides its members with special events and gaming days.

Club Philosophy

NOVAG is organized around the lines of a collective; we elect officers, sure, but we wouldn't dream of snapping our fingers and expecting anyone to jump. A certain level of community spirit is required to make NOVAG happen (or it wouldn't exist in the first place), but we have no real expectations of our members other than to show up and game.

Future Gamers

NOVAG is extremely kid-friendly. We STRONGLY encourage you to bring your children or younger siblings to our events. That way we can get them to play our games!

Membership

Membership in NOVAG is open to anyone and costs nothing.
